Ai Weiwei is perhaps the most well-known provocative Chinese contemporary artist and activist. He has been a strong political activist who is opposed to the government, and he has been very vocal on issues of human rights and democracy. This documentary shows how he fought for artistic freedom while being under authoritarian rule at the same time.
The film was aired prior to Ai Weiwei’s eleven weeks of detainment by the Chinese government in 2011 and his release after concerted pressure from international communities.
