Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Cave of Forgotten Dreams is a 3D documentary by Werner Herzog that focuses discussion on a Chauvet Cave in France. This cave is full of numerous pictures painted by early people who inhabited this location from tens of thousands of years ago.

The public is usually not allowed to access the cave under any circumstances, but Herzog, with the assistance of the French Ministry of Culture, was granted permission to shoot the contents of the cave under the following restrictions;

The drawings depicted on the walls are pale visions of an ancient type and stage of civilization.

Herzog struggled with capturing the images due to the fact that it used 3D technology, which was at the time meant to be used in conjunction with specific stages and digital manipulation, but the actual shooting location did not allow for the use of any kind of stage or any other heavy equipment whatsoever.

This documentary has received several Best Documentary accolades, and the reception to this documentary was extremely positive.
